📌 December Training Highlights
As part of the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation – Egypt to strengthen leadership skills and enhance institutional capacity, three workshops—Strategic Leadership, Problem Solving and Teamwork Enhancement, and Fundraising Skills—were successfully conducted in December, on December 8, 10, and 16, at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.
The workshops were delivered by the DAAD Cairo Academy (DKA) for the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, with a focus on supporting the professional development of Ministry staff. We appreciate the active participation and commitment of all attendees.

On December 15th, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo participated in the event “Winter Wonder and Opportunities for Skilled Workers – Germany”, held at the German Embassy in Cairo. The event featured key representatives’ German institutions who presented to Egyptian Partners and Journalists their work on supporting opportunities for Skilled Workers from Egypt to Germany. Inaugurated by Chargé d'affaires Mr. Andreas Fiedler, the day had short presentations delivered by the different German institutions in Egypt which are involved in skilled labour mobility. Ms. Fatma Soliman, Deputy Director of the DAAD Regional Office Cairo, presented DAAD support programmes for skilled migration, focusing on academic qualification pathways, funding opportunities, and guidance for international graduates and researchers planning their professional future in Germany. Ms. Soliman explained that as a funder and mediator between key stakeholders in politics, higher education and business, the DAAD supports and contributes to the development of the qualification pathway for international students in Germany to become the skilled workers of tomorrow. In this it draws upon its existing portfolio of programmes and many years’ experiences in recruiting international students and early career academics and helping them gain the qualifications they need for the international labor market.
DAAD Cairo was pleased to engage with participants and to contribute to strengthening academic and professional mobility between Egypt and Germany.

✨ Closing Winter School II in 2025 after 10 days of Hands-On Knowledge and Innovation! ✨
⏱️ Over the course of 10 days of the winter school “(Re)Cognizing an Omitted Legacy: Digital Heritage for Industrial Heritage in Alexandria”, participants were able to work in groups on multiple days, fostering teamwork skills, as well as consultations with mentors and Feedback rounds focused on improving workflows, accuracy, and storytelling. Sessions included point clouds, photogrammetric models, and linking P.C. with GIS.
Thanks to the efforts of our partners, the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University, Jordan University of Science and Technology, the University of Sharjah in the UAE, Brandenburg University of Technology (Cottbus-Senftenberg), and Bauhaus University Weimar in Germany, and special thanks to the Alexandria and Mediterranean Research Center (Alex Med) and Bibliotheca Alexandrina for hosting us.
The winter school allowed participants to have:
🔷 Documented one of Egypt’s most significant industrial heritage sites
🔷Applied state-of-the-art digital tools (3D scanning, photogrammetry, GIS)
🔷Engaged in Expert-led discussions from the digital heritage field
⚡All in all, we had a transformative 10-day experience, paving the way for new networks, research, and preservation initiatives. To this end, the winter school has successfully emphasized the value of sustained collaboration and innovation in the field of industrial heritage.

🌍 📚 Reflections from the 7th Public Lecture: From Ideology to Critique: History in the Thought of the Iraqi Philosopher ʿAbd al-Ǧabbār al-Rifaʾī (b. 1954)
💡 Yesterday evening, we hosted an inspiring public lecture by Dr Emmanuel Pisani, French Dominican, Islamologist, and Director of the Dominican Institute for Oriental Studies (IDEO). With his expertise in philosophy and theology, he offered a rich exploration of the intellectual project of ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Rifaʾī (b. 1954).
🔍 Throughout his talk, Dr Pisani explored moving beyond ideological interpretations of history toward a critical engagement with the Islamic intellectual heritage.
💡 Key highlights from the lecture included:
🟡Exploration of the renewal of Islamic theology.
🟡Gaining Insight into Rifaʾī’s distinction between ideological and critical history.
🟡Reflections on how historical thinking can inspire intellectual and spiritual reform in the contemporary Muslim world.

Recap: 19th Study Information Day & Parents’ Evening
On November 10th, the DAAD organized the 19th Study Information Day at the Deutsche Evangelische Oberschule (DEO) in Cairo. Students from grade 11 and 12 of DEO, DSB Cairo, DSB Alexandria, Europaschule Kairo, Beverly Hills School, Neue Deutsche Schule Alexandria, Nefertari School, Rahnschule, as well as 11 graduates of the Goethe-Institut Studienkolleg, took part in the event.
Eight universities, six universities of applied sciences, and two technical universities from Germany participated and presented a wide range of study programs. GUC Cairo and GIU Cairo represented Egyptian universities.
The German Embassy was also present and provided important information about visa and residence procedures.
Specialized presentations, personal experiences, and individual consultations offered students valuable insights into studying and living in Germany.
On November 11th, the DAAD held a Parents’ Evening at the Europaschule Kairo. Parents from all participating schools attended in person, while families from DSB Alexandria and Neue Deutsche Schule Alexandria joined online.
All universities and institutions that participated on November 10th were also present at the Parents’ Evening, offering additional guidance on study options, requirements, and application processes.
The German Embassy was again in attendance and provided detailed explanations of the student visa process.
Both events offered excellent opportunities for information, exchange, and inspiration for students and families preparing for higher education in Germany! 🇩🇪✨
