COSIMENA-Funded Events in 2025

In 2025, we had dynamic and geographically diverse collaborations to fund networking events under the COSIMENA Call for Partnerships 2025. For the second year in a row, we reflected our commitment to strengthening scientific collaboration and increasing the visibility of networks in Egypt, Germany, and countries of the Middle East and North Africa.

In this regard, we have funded 9 diverse event formats, including workshops, small symposia, and winter schools, in addition to a lecture series consisting of 8 evening lectures. These activities have successfully created strong synergies between Egypt’s and Germany’s scientific community, DAAD alumni, while also strengthening ties among partner universities and research institutions from Egypt, Germany, and the MENA region.

In 2025, we had a wide geographic outreach with a strong network of partners across diverse locations. Within Egypt, we expanded partnerships with universities in Cairo, Alexandria, Post Said, and Galala. At the same time, we broadened our partnerships with universities in Jordan, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates. The funded COSIMENA activities consisted of a variety of formats, including four workshops, two symposia, two winter courses, and eight evening lecture series. Disciplines included Sustainability, Energy, History, Migration, Urban Planning, Research Matchmaking, Medicine, Molecular Biomedicine, Biophysics, Engineering, Economics, Agriculture, and Architecture.

Through fostering and harnessing partnerships in 2025, COSIMENA, as a networking platform, has advanced interdisciplinary collaborations, empowered young researchers, doctoral, and post-doctoral researchers to address complex global challenges of our time. Looking ahead, the next COSIMENA Call for Partnerships is to be announced in September 2026. Eligibility requires that applications include a German cooperation partner, who must be the main applicant partner.
