German Studies in Egypt

The DAAD actively supports the academic education of German language teachers, lecturers, the international networking of German language and literature specialists, as well as the strengthening of German as an academic language.

German language and literature studies in Egypt have a long tradition and enjoy an excellent reputation. As a result, the German-Egyptian cooperation in this field is very fruitful: currently, four German language lecturers and four language assistants from Germany work at Egyptian universities. Two DAAD supported Master’s programmes are offered at Ain Shams University in cooperation with University of Leipzig. In these programmes, students are taught in the fields of German as a foreign language (DaF) and special translation. Furthermore, with the “Hochschulsommerkursstipendien” (University Summer Courses Scholarships) each year the DAAD offers a study visit in Germany for several weeks to 40 to 50 Egyptian Bachelor’s students.
