Introduction Science Journalism is gaining a more prominent role at universities and in the media sector now, especially through the Covid-19 pandemic the role of science journalists in raising awareness and communicating scientific findings became eminent and shed the light on the linkage between scientists, journalists and society. Nowadays, there is also no doubt that Climate Change is a major topic. And with COP27 having just ended, the conference puts the spotlight on scientists and journalists to work together to give the public some insights into the latest findings about climate change and the agreements which COP27 entails and how this will affect their daily life. In this regard, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo organizes in the framework of its “DAAD Kairo Akademie” (DKA) and the project “Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle and North Africa” (COSIMENA) a workshop on “A flashback on a year of Science Journalism on Climate Change”. The following aspects will be discussed during the two-day workshop:

1.1. Climate Change and Society

Climate Change is affecting society in different ways: from an ecological, economic and social perspective. How can science journalists raise awareness and promote climate action to the non-scientific community?

1.2. COP27

On the one hand, many international institutions and initiatives from civil society are participating at COP27 aiming to raise awareness on important topics and shed a light on alternative views

  • How can science journalism raise awareness about these endeavors and report about them objectively?

On the other hand, COP27 entails certain agreements and results that will affect daily life:

  • How can extensive coverage of such an event be?
  • How can science journalists communicate the results derived from the conference to a non-scientific community?
