Workshop: Between Status and Statues: Women in Critical Times in Ancient Egypt and Beyond

The DAAD Regional Office Cairo invites you to participate in a symposium entitled “Between Status and Statues: Women in Critical Times in Ancient Egypt and Beyond”. The workshop is organised within the framework of the DAAD project “Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa” (COSIMENA), and in cooperation with the Faculty of Archelogy, Cairo University and Institute for Egyptology and Coptology, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München.

Date: Wednesday, December 4th, and Thursday, December 5th, 2024

Time: from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (CLT)

Location: On-site Event; DAAD Regional Office Cairo (11 El-Saleh Ayoub Street, Zamalek, Cairo)

The workshop aims to shed light on the following perspectives

Discussing intercultural research projects on women in critical times on a wider scale including e.g. gender, religious, philological, iconographical, and classical studies.
Illustrating the role of women during critical crises and wars
Exploring the impact of different forms of the crisis on women and how they coped with them and underscore the potential of this research for international and interdisciplinary studies

Target Group

Scholars and students specialized in gender studies, classical studies, and ancient cultures of Egypt, Sudan, and Greece.
