Egyptian-German Research Matchmaking-Workshop 2026
Taking place on Wednesday, 16 September 2026, the Egyptian-German Research Matchmaking workshop will bring together researchers and experts from Egypt and Germany to foster new collaborations and strengthen existing academic partnerships.
The Egyptian-German Research workshop comes at a particularly important time following Egypt’s association with Horizon Europe on 22 October 2025. As an associated country, Egyptian universities and research institutions can now participate in all parts of the European Union’s flagship research and innovation programme under the same conditions as EU Member States. This milestone creates unprecedented opportunities for Egyptian researchers and experts to join or lead international research consortia, access competitive funding, and contribute to addressing global challenges through collaborative research.
The Matchmaking Workshop aims to capitalize on these new opportunities by providing a platform for researchers and experts to establish meaningful partnerships and develop future joint projects. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with potential research partners from Germany, explore avenues for scientific collaboration across all academic disciplines, and exchange ideas with colleagues who share similar research interests.
The programme will begin with “Horizon Europe – Matchmaking Success Stories and Current Opportunities,” a panel discussion showcasing successful examples of Egyptian-German research collaboration while highlighting the opportunities created through Egypt’s association with Horizon Europe. Participants will gain valuable insights into international cooperation and the development of competitive research projects.
Following the panel discussion, participants will take part in one of four parallel thematic workshops covering different research fields. During these sessions, German and Egyptian professors will present the latest state-of-the-art developments in their respective disciplines, introduce current research questions and emerging scientific challenges, and identify promising starting points for future collaborative research between Egyptian and German researchers.
Researchers who already maintain collaborations with German institutions are equally encouraged to participate. The workshop will also present project funding opportunities offered by the DAAD and the German Research Foundation (DFG), enabling participants to explore funding instruments that can support both existing and future research partnerships.
Researchers and experts from all academic disciplines are welcome to participate.
Further information on the programme and participating institutions will be published soon.
